Some would call this wine “pretty” or “elegant”, but by any name it is attractively dominated by subtle aromas of floral perfume. This 100% pinot is an amalgam of some of Santa Barbara’s best pinot vineyards; check out its pedigree and your mouth waters… Ampelos, Las Hermanas, Turner, Melville, Gypsy Canyon, Kick on Ranch and Dierberg Vineyards.
As with many of my favorite boutique producers, Owner/Winemaker Chad Melville uses whole-cluster fermentation, allowing the stems to lend some spice complexity to the fruit dimension. In his opinion, "Too many California pinots are simply about fruit and don't have the complexity that I'm looking for."

The Wine
This is classic Central Coast Pinot, featuring the blue fruit profile (blue berries, plums) for which the region is famous. Sweetly ripe, black cherries dusted with cinnamon dominate the aromas. On the palate, look for blackberry, violets, and licorice. And then enjoy its deep, long finish.
As a second-generation winemaker/grower (his family owns Melville Vineyard and Melville winery), Chad takes advantage of the counsel of winemaker-friends and grape clients like Greg Brewer and Steve Clifton (Brewer-Clifton) and Sashi Moorman (Holus Bolus, Stolpman), as well as others from around the globe - "The best way to know if you're doing a good job is to know what the best guys in the world are doing. That'll put you in your place pretty fast."
