Sojourn Cellars has fairly exploded onto the pinot scene, gaining great respect as a small producer of vineyard-designated pinot noir. But my favorite in their line-up was this blend from four pinot vineyards, which I tasted on two separate occasions, just to be sure.
Sometimes, a blended wine exceeds the sum of its parts. In this case, the blend is not created by adding juice from other grape varietals (I’m not a fan of adding a dollop of Petite Syrah to give Pinot more color and body, by the way). The four different Sonoma vineyards are: the Sullivan Vineyard (located on Skagg's Island in the San Francisco Bay!), the Fedrick Vineyard (near Petaluma), the Windsor Oaks Vineyard (East of Hwy 101, hardly coastal), and the Sangiacomo Vineyard (South of Sonoma city). Only the first two vineyards fall within the Sonoma Coast AVA, but they provided the majority of the fruit, as 85% must come from the AVA if it appears on the label.
838 cases produced.
Cheers!
This is a pretty wine, quite feminine, with a most confident air about her. Aromas of fresh strawberries and raspberries sit atop warmer cherry notes and some dusty graphite that segue into hints of forest floor. She is medium-bodied, nicely balanced, and crisply refreshing, with flavors that linger like a pleasant memory. Great value in today’s world of pricey pinot!
