Tempranillo is at the core of Spanish reds from many different regions. The grape can result in splendid wines known for their fruitiness and enticing spice notes. The Ribera del Duero is found just West of the Rioja region, where the country’s best-known wines are grown (and some of the priciest!)
Deep ruby red with traces of its youthful violet still in evidence. The nose is intense, with a marked toasty spiciness, licorice and cloves, surrounded with ripe blackberries and raspberries. With its relatively low 12.2% alcohol (remember when California wines were like that, from 1970-1995?), it maintains an enviable balance that pairs nicely with a wide range of seasonal foods.
Best now and over the next 2 - 3 years. 2,700 cases produced.
Cheers,
The Wine
A favorite importer found this little gem in the Northern reaches of Spain’s Ribero del Duoro region. Based on Tempranillo (with just 1% Cabernet!) it offers Spanish typicity, intriguing complexity, and great value.
