Finca SOPHENIA aims to be recognized as one of the top producers in Argentina. To help achieve this goal, the winery brought in prestigious Winemaker Michel Rolland to help craft the Finca Sophenia wines. The winery features the latest French technology for receiving, crushing, pressing and vinifying, with finished wines aged in French and/or American oak barrels. Their wines show great complexity. Such as this Malbec, a grape long believed to be best for blending, in trace amounts, into Bordeaux blends based on Cabernet and/or Merlot. Not so much, anymore. At least, not when Malbec is grown in conditions such as those found in Argentina. Malbec came to Argentina in the mid 1800's from Cahors, where it produces deeply-colored, tannic wines. But when grown in Argentina, Malbec produces a softer, less tannic wine that has become its primary export to the world market. Cheers! Dave the Wine Merchant
