The Wine "After thinking I had the perfect blend and after actually sending the label to the printing press, I added two barrels of my premium Syrah to the 76 barrel lot, making the final blend over 50% Syrah. M5 is a Margerum blend using five grape varieties from twelve different highest quality vineyards in Santa Barbara County vineyards to make one wine. Provenance Only 2,200 cases produced, each with it’s own serial number on the label.
"M5 is a wine that is from a thought, an amalgamation of memories, both distant and recent. Memories of wines I've tasted and loved the past thirty-three years. It illustrates the benefits inherent in a blended wine. This wine has a deliciousness that is wonderful to behold, swallow, and enjoy." ~ Doug Margerum, Winemaker
Grenache from Santa Ynez Valley was nothing short of stellar in 2006, and it is the key to this wine. Grenache alwways plays the lead role in a Chateauneuf du Pape blend. In the words of the Winemaker, its Grenache, Counoise, Mourvèdre and Cinsault provide aromatic, lean, bright, tight, crangrape, (crangrape is a made up word) tobacco, smoky, leather and earth which offset my bombastic, dark, black, licorice, plum, fruity tannic, bold, intensely ripe and full-bodied Syrah.
