It's easy to see why, whith its rich and velvety texture and beautiful floral aromas complimenting the usual red and dark berries and soft hints of vanilla. It is made from 50% Dijon clones and 50% traditional California selections planted at the higher elevations of the famous Bien Nacido Vineyard, the source for much of ABC’s fruit.
This is a wine for hedonists, for those who enjoy a pinot rich with fruit and with a silky finish that lasts through tomorrow.
The Winemaker:
Beginning in 1989 / 1990, Jim's early efforts placed his winery on Robert Parker's list of "Best Wineries in the World". In 1991, he was selected by Oz Clark as one of the fifty creators of "Modern Classic wines". That same year, Dan Berger of the L.A. Times ranked him as #8 in his Top Twenty California Winemakers, then named him "L.A. Times Winemaker of the Year" in 1992, a title he earned again in 2001 from Food & Wine Magazine.
I could go on and on, but you get the idea. On the worldwide stage of fine wines, Jim has a spotlight with his name on it.
Cheers!
The Wine
This wine has been much discussed at our wine bar - Tastes of the Valleys - where it is a favorite among our staff and patrons alike.
This is also from famed Winemaker Jim Clendenen, a not-shy producer who bottles a good half dozen pinots every year. This particular wine is named for his son, Knox (note the new label image of a young boy leaping into the crush tank).
