Put this wine in your glass and give it a swirl and some time to breathe – it will begin revealing wave after wave of sensory treats – cherry pie baked in a wood-fired oven, some hot plums and blackberries, and tantalizing violets, licorice and sage. On the palate, additional notes of mineral and spice are picked up on the finish. The palate is medium in body, with firm and softly integrated tannins.
Rio Tinto is a unique wine, as far as I know – a dry red table wine produced from the classic Portuguese Port varietals - 40% Touriga Francesa, 33% Touriga Nacional, 18% Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), and 9 % Alvarelhao.
If you agree this is a great everyday wine I encourage you to buy a few extra bottles to have on hand throughout the summer!
Cheers!
When I first tasted this wine, its nuanced layers of flavor convinced me its price would be in the $25 range. I was pleasantly surprised, to say the least, and have been looking forward to introducing it to you ever since.
