The Story
Winemaker Jim Moore fell in love with Italian wines while leading Mondavi's Italian Winemaking venture. Working with the Frescobaldi family, Jim walked the vineyards of Tuscany and Northern Italy and become immersed in regional varieties and winemaking techniques.
He started producing his own label with the notorious 1997 vintage and continues to produce some of California’s finest versions of these wonderful varietals.
Winemaker’s Notes
To enhance the wine’s complexity and add richness, we blended in a small percentage of Barbera, which lifted the aromas out of the glass and added a complex layer of red fruit to the black fruit of Nebbiolo, which was a bit uni-dimensional to our palate. We are most pleased with this finished wine."

Tasting Notes
Rich scents of black and red fruit, saddle leather and tobacco spice.
The word “Uvaggio” refers to a blend of grapes in Italy. So “L’Uvaggio di Giacomo” literally translates as “the blend of James”, or as I teasingly refer to it when tasting his wines with him, “Jim’s Blend”.
"Il Leopardo is a nebbiolo blend (uvaggio) of grapes that came from a vineyard with lean soils in the rolling hills west of Los Olivos, in the Santa Ynez Valley.
