Buttonwood - 2005 Sauvignon Blanc -- SidewaysWineClub.com Shopping Cart
$14.00 $8.75
-- Sauvignon Blanc is Buttonwood's signature wine. Try this and you'll see why.
I always enjoy visiting Buttonwood. Beautiful grounds, knowledgeable staff, great art... And how can you not love a tasting room that plays LP's on one of the few remaining turntables??
But what I enjoy most is their wine. Elegant. Old-world. Nuanced. In a day when more wines follow the well-worn path of "gobs of fruit, heavy extract" sameness, Buttonwood maintains an independant aesthetic much needed in today's Mondo Vino. We raise our glass in a not-so-quiet toast to those brave enough to cut their own swath.
The Wine
This Sauvignon Blanc refreshes and excites the palate. It is refreshing because of the natural acidity, highlighted by fermenting and aging 2/3 of this wine in stainless steel tanks to keep the flavors fresh and light. And it excites the palate with a dollop of semillon, which contributes richness to both the mouth feel and finish.
Look for tropical aromas and bright sassy flavors of citrus, highlighted by a most pleasantly tart ruby grapefruit. 3,026 cases produced.
Suggested Food Pairings:
Sauvignon Blanc is one of the best white wines to accompany food. Its natural acidity, often balanced by an imperceptible trace of food-friendly residual sugar, allows it to pair with most salads as well as grilled foods and lighter-bodied dishes that highlight citrus. Increasingly, S.B. is the wine for the way we eat today.
• Classic Pairing - Oysters!
• Classic Pairing - goat cheese
• Summer garden veggies, parboiled then grilled
• Chicken or fish prepared simply, especially when highlighted with Ginger and/or citrus
• Ceviche - this wine loves lime!
• Pork or veal prepared with capers, olives and citrus zest
• Antipasto
