Our Tandem t-shirts also say, “Syn: teamwork, joint effort and passion”. This is what we bring to the wine and what the wine brings to us. Of all the Tandem wines, this is the one that collaborates the most closely with us to bring itself forward, enduring many long nights of blending sessions and debate among the wines and winegrower. Peloton speaks of a partnership with the wine in a way that is both akin to and yet a complete departure from the pure voice of the vineyard designate. One thing that Peloton says very clearly: the wine must first be completely delicious. It invites both the winemaker to commingle his soul into the glass with the wine and the consumer to, well, consume with passion and pleasure. Tasting notes: In 2006 we turn to our deep Pinot roots with this blend. Fragrant raspberry and wisps of cola first greet the nose, followed by just a kiss of smoked apple wood bacon, morels, vanilla and maybe even mocha. This level of complexity deepens on the palate, with all of the aromas echoing the flavors, along with late hints of cocoa powder and a finely balanced acidity framing tannins that carry late and softly into a long, raspberry and Rainier Cherry finish. Technical Data: • Vineyards: Vineyards: From all across our wine portfolio in the North Coast, ranging from Southern Sonoma to the Redwood Valley in Mendocino County. Varietal composition: • Varietal composition: o 58% Pinot noir, all vineyard designates (with a healthy 29% this year from van der Kamp) o 30% Zinfandel, all from the Aldine “Talmage Bench” old vines in Mendocino o 2.5% Carignane, amazing gnarled old vines (AGOV), Caballo Blanco Vineyard. One of the best old-vine, dry-farmed Carignane vineyards in the state, this vineyard is lovingly and organically tended by the Baltins family in Mendocino County. o 2.5% Sangiovese, Masut Vineyard, Redwood Valley. Coming from Jake Fetzer, biodynamically farmed near the top of Black Butte at the headwaters of the Russian River o 2% Syrah, from Silver Pines Vineyard on Sonoma Mt. o 2% Chardonnay, primarily Ritchie Vineyard in the Russian River Valley o 2% Gewurztraminer, Ferrington Vineyard, Anderson Valley (Mendocino). Just enough to lift the edges of the aromatic envelope! o 1% Pinot Meunier from the van der Kamp vineyard for that zingy raspberry spice • Harvest: Harvest: Mid-September to late October–spanning the entire breadth of harvest, first-to-last grapes! • Fermentation: Fermentation: a wild cacophony of techniques and critters, from wild to Brunello yeast selections.
