2007 Van der Kamp Pinot Noir -- Tandem Winery Shopping Cart
$46.00 -- NEW RELEASE!
The Van der Kamp Vineyard has long been our most terroir-expressive bottling. The particular vintage always comes into play with this wine: The vineyard’s sparse volcanic soil often is quite stingy with the fruit if the vintage is difficult. Regardless, the Martin Van der Kamp family is always up to the challenge. This bottling represents a most perfect growing season!
Tasting Notes:
The trouble-free year and a high percent of whole-cluster speak to this bottling, one of our most elegant Van der Kamp Pinots to date. It is slightly lighter in color than other years, with a developed spice and floral perfume on the nose and a delicious depth of cherry/berry fruit and spice on the palate. The aftertaste is long and enduring, promising many years of enjoyment to come with this Sonoma classic.
Technical Data:

Vineyards: This is the highest vineyard on Sonoma Mountain, with some of the oldest Pinot Noir and certainly oldest Pinot Meunier vines in California. The soil is variable, but mostly rocky volcanic loam, with plenty of obsidian (sometimes in the form of arrowheads) and a North-facing aspect to diffuse the light perfectly. The vineyard is also perfectly tended by Ulysses Van der Kamp. When it comes to viticulture, nobody does it better than Ulysses! Clones are myriad: Dijon 777 and the hot new 829, Martini, “old vine” (no one knows what it actually is), Horn, UCD-23, Jackson, Swan (Dehlinger selection), La Tache, and also Pinot Meunier as a separate varietal.

Harvest: This harvest was so gentle and almost picture-perfect that there is very little to report. Each block ripened in due and unhurried time over 3 weeks, with a total of 6 lots being picked, including 2 of Dijon 777, which we split by vine stress rather than by row.

Fermentation: Both primary and secondary fermentations were trouble-free in this generous year. About 40% of the overall fermentation was conducted in 100% whole-cluster lots or maceration carbonique. This included the 12.5% Pinot Meunier, and a little over a quarter of the Pinot Noir, including all of the Swan clone and the “Red Shoulder” block. These whole cluster lots were finished with a pure Southern Burgundian yeast isolate called 71-B. The remaining 60% was conducted as a “wild” primary fermentation with 100% destemmed but no crushing. Malolactic fermentation was 100% indigenous.

Barrel Aging: We chose once again to go with very little new oak, using a fair amount of once- and twice-used French cooperage. The fermentations were mostly completed in barrel, being pressed off at between 10-12o Brix for the whole-cluster ferments, and 0-2o Brix (% sugar) for the more traditional destemmed fermentations. This allowed us to leave the wines essentially on the lees for about 10 months before bottling with just a touch of egg white fining on two of the 6 lots that comprised the final blend.

Production: 905 cases of this mountain magic.

pH: 3.64

TA: 6.3 g/L

14.6% alcohol

Appellation: Sonoma Mountain

SKU: TNPNVDK07A

Other products in the category Current Releases:

2007 Manchester Ridge Vineyard Pinot noir

2006 Sangiacomo Chardonnay

2007 Sangiacomo Chardonnay -- NEW RELEASE!

2006 Porter-Bass Chardonnay -- NEW RELEASE!

2006 Van der Kamp Pinot Noir

2007 Hawk’s Roost Ranch Pinot noir

2006 Auction Block Pinot noir -- SILVER MEDAL - 2009 SF Int'l Wine Competition & 92 POINTS-Wine News

2006 Sangiacomo Pinot Noir -- GOLD MEDAL - 2009 SF Int'l Wine Competition & 93 POINTS-Wine News

2006 Silver Pines Pinot Noir -- 93 POINTS - Wine News (August Edition 2009)

2007 Silver Pines Pinot Noir -- NEW RELEASE!

2007 Auction Block Pinot Noir

Tandem Winery Products

Tandem Winery
Tandem Winery ecommerce software powered by Nexternal
