NOTE FROM REBECCA
This has been discontinued by the manufacturer. I ran out ages ago but this weekend I found a long-lost box with a bunch more pairs - whooopie! I have steeply discounted these. None of them are customer returns but most have been handled at least once when displaying them at an event. Should be in perfect shape but the packaging may have wear & tear. All the usual stuff included, hard case, polishing cloth, strap etc.PRODUCT FEATURES
• Patented Orbital Seal™ design helps eyes retain moisture longer
• Prevents wind, dust and pollen from irritating the eyes
• Patented filtered vent system allows proper air circulation
• Easily converts to a regular pair of sunglasses
• Foam eyecups are medical grade and hypoallergenic
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Solano model belongs to the Velocity CV Convertible SR100 family of Panoptx DryEyeWear. The Orbital Seal™ design follows every contour of the face to create a seal around the eyes. This seal forms a chamber that maximizes the therapeutic benefits of eye drops by trapping moisture and keeping wind and common airborne irritants away from the eyes. The Orbital Seal™ foam padding is attached to a removable eyecup so the Solano can easily be converted to a normal pair of sunglasses.
FACE YOUR FRAMES
The Solano frame is a ladies' style and fits small to medium faces. This style is NOT available from dealers as it has been discontinued. It is available in dark tortoise, jade, and black.
To shop for other styles, we encourage you to go to local dealers such as Harley Davidson stores. It is important with this kind of eyewear to get a good fit.
OPTIMAL OPTICS
SharpTec Copper and Baseline Grey: An optically correct, tapered, decentred and anti-fog treated Polycarbonate lens. These are the darkest lenses available.
Colortec Copper: Next step up from Sharptec.
Day/Night or Dawn/Dusk: Made from shatterproof PureTec in NXT®, these photochromic (light-sensitive) lenses darken in bright sun and lighten in low light. Day/Night is a grey tone lens and Dawn/Dusk is a copper tone lens.
PRESCRIPTIONS?
We recommend buying the pair with the cheapest lens and taking it to a local optician to have an Rx lens put in it.
REBECCA'S REVIEW
Panoptx are, in my opinion, one of the most important investments all dry eye patients should make for themselves if at all possible. Developed for the skier and biker markets, these sunglasses are ideally suited for protecting our eyes in a number of ways:
First, the vented foam seals create a moist micro-environment around the eyes. Second, the eyecup and foam prevent wind, or, if indoors, air circulated by fans, a/c or heating vents from moving across the corneas and irritating an already sensitive dry surface. Third, for those patients who suffer from light sensitivity, the eyecup and foam lining fill the gap between the frame and the face so that light and glare cannot enter peripherally.
I cannot overstate the utility of this kind of eyewear. The more severe your dry eye condition, no matter what the cause or nature, the more likely you are to benefit. For some with mild to moderate dry eye, Panoptx may be simply something they wear outdoors in the wind. For others who are nearly disabled by dry eye pain, wearing these glasses indoors may make the difference between being employable and not, particularly for those whose job requires heavy computer usage or exposes them to eye-unfriendly environments.
Note that the light-adjusting (24/7) lens is great for indoor use but does not get all that dark outdoors, so the darker Sharpview lens is a better choice for someone with severe light sensitivity.
TIP: The best place to shop for this kind of eyewear is your nearest Harley Davidson dealership's sports optical section. I recommend calling first and asking them specifically about the models listed in our shop because those are the models with the foam eyecup that is so helpful for dry eye. They usually stock Wiley-X and Harley also has some foam-lined ones of their own.
