How do you pronounce it? Same as "onyx".... i.e., 'ON-ix'. Not to be confused with Onion Goggles! What's it like? The overall concept is closely similar to Tranquileyes, i.e. eyecups with a nose connector and the classic fabric wrap. Here is how it is different from Tranquileyes: <ul aria-level="0" aria-posinset="0" aria-setsize="0"> <li aria-level="0" aria-posinset="0" aria-setsize="0">The eyecups are made of silicone - slick, soft, thin and flexible; enough to be worn directly against the face without discomfort.</li> <li aria-level="0" aria-posinset="0" aria-setsize="0">There is no foam lining, so a) no added moisture; b) the eyecups fit right against the orbital bone; and c) there is no added padding that would help hold lids down.</li> </ul> So it's basically a stripped-down but very comfy well-designed shield. Who is it best suited for? I'm sure this will evolve as I get more experience with it but for starters, here are some types of dry eye patients I could see as good candidates for an Onyix: <ul aria-level="0" aria-posinset="0" aria-setsize="0"> <li aria-level="0" aria-posinset="0" aria-setsize="0">C-PAP users.</li> <li aria-level="0" aria-posinset="0" aria-setsize="0">People whose skin does not tolerate the Tranquileyes foam. (Rare, but it happens.)</li> <li aria-level="0" aria-posinset="0" aria-setsize="0">Those who want night protection but with minimal bulk, for example those who find sleep masks too large/bulky.</li> <li aria-level="0" aria-posinset="0" aria-setsize="0">Those who want night protection with minimal hassle. No parts to wash, no waiting for a mask to air dry. </li> <li aria-level="0" aria-posinset="0" aria-setsize="0">And of course... dry eye product junkies (you know who you are!)</li> </ul> Potential drawbacks?
