Dwelle is specially formulated for long-lasting relief through its unique polymeric blending, which creates a superior adhesion to the ocular surface, resulting in improved "wettability".

While many people with severe dry eye use Dwelle for both day and night use, others use a milder drop during the day and keep Dwelle for night use (sometimes in conjunction with a moisture goggle or sleep mask) especially when dealing with erosions or lagophthalmos.

WHY HAVEN'T I (OR WHY HASN'T MY DOCTOR) HEARD OF THESE BEFORE?

Dwelle has been around for 20 years.

However, it's always been owned by very small companies. It's very difficult for small companies to make themselves visible in an industry dominated by multinational pharmaceutical companies. Doctors become aware of new products mostly through free samples given to them for distribution to their patients. But only the largest companies can afford to distribute samples to the thousands of doctors around the country.

REBECCA'S REVIEW

Dwelle is my longstanding drop of choice for night and morning use and also for any rough days or bad flare-ups. At night, I apply Dwelle shortly after my warm compress and just before donning my tranquileyes goggle. Occasionally I need more during the night. Dwelle simply gives me better, longer, more reliable protection than anything else I have ever come across.

There is one tradeoff with Dwelle: bits of flaky white gunk on lashes and lid margins. This comes off easily with a damp cloth. Personally, it doesn't bother me a bit and I think most people with dryness severe enough to need Dwelle will feel the same way. I keep the residue to a minimum by tipping my head way back, putting in just a small drop and blotting, but I still sometimes have to wash off the flakes in the morning (either a washcloth or my Ocusoft foam lidscrub in the shower) especially if I've used Tranquileyes "dry" at night. When I wet the Tranquileyes pads it seems to soak off the residue so that my lashes & margins are pretty clean in the morning.

Tip: If my surface is too dried out - like first thing in the morning, or if the heat's been blasting, Dwelle will occasionally really sting on instillation. I pretty much know when my eyes are going to be like that so I first soften them up with a little saline rinse (or NutraTear in a pinch) and then put Dwelle in maybe 15 minutes later.

Blur? Nope. Never. To be sure, it's a lot thicker "feeling" than NutraTear (or drops like Refresh or Theratears) and doesn't give that 'instant' clarity that NT does. I just blink a few times and am then generally fine.

What if I don't like it at first? Well… harking back to the early days of the desperate post LASIK dry eye crowd when we patiently experimented with so many things in search of relief, I'm going to be very bold and just say that if you are unwilling to tolerate any side effects or anything other than instant and complete relief, you do not NEED these drops so don't bother buying them. Some people will experience wonderful relief immediately and without any side effects; others will take more time. Some may take many weeks before they really see all the benefits. Some people will get some stinging upon instillation (occasionally unavoidable with a high polymer content drop on a very dry cornea); many people will experience the joys of the white flakes; and I've heard from a few people who had excessive tearing for a few weeks after starting to use Dwelle exclusively. The only thing I'm aware of that would be cause for discontinuing use would be inflammation, redness, severe or persistent pain and the like as that may indicate some kind of sensitivity to an ingredient. At any rate, if you have trouble getting started, please don't hesitate to call our office, and of course if you experience anything to cause you real concern, call your doctor.

Who am I? My name is Rebecca Petris and I have had chronic dry eye since undergoing LASIK in July 2001.
