The GP-5K is a new helmet from Arai, built to
fill the void left by the unavailability, until 2003, of the XL
and XXL GP-4K.
In comparison with the GP-4 from past years the GP-5K is a much
lighter helmet, and is constructed with Arai's famous SCLC (Super
Complex Laminate Construction).
The revised chin bar is about 5 mm. longer (downwards), and the
new cheek pads have a more rounded shape then previous Arai models.
These newly-shaped cheek pads fit better around the cheeks and
offer improved comfort for the wearer.
Because of the rounded shape of the GP-5K shell, less wind is
allowed to enter the helmet thereby offering a reduction in noise.
The GP-5K has one front ventilation duct on top of the shell,
and one rear vent. This roof vent system uses low pressure that
builds up behind the helmet to pull air through the helmet, rather
than trying to force air into the helmet.
The helmet is lined with navy fireproof Nomex® fabric and uses
a patented, flat "double D" ring retention system for
greater comfort and safety.
The GP-5K has a new shield type, which only fits the new GP-5
and GP-5K shell. While the size of the aperture is the same as
for the Snell95 version GP-4, please note that the visors are
not inter-changeable. A new screw set is also available for the
GP-5 and GP-5K and is not inter-changeable with prior GP models.
