Tractive's RD906 sequential shift gearbox is a new generation of racing transmission built to perform and survive in the brutal racing environment.
Flexible and cost-effective
The modular concept is being used since inception. It allows Tractive to use the same or very similar parts for both rear- and front wheel drive transmissions. Differently shaped casings can be produced using the same or similar fixturing, independently of the car make.
CAD/CAM programming considerably cuts lead-time for the development a new gearbox casings. This is a very cost-effective concept for the manufacturing of gearboxes to your specific needs.
Reliability and performance
The basic layout of the RD / SD series gearboxes is unique, eliminating all problems related to thermal and mechanical properties of traditional layouts.
The gearbox casings are machined from air-craft quality aluminum billets (590N/mm2 UTS). The main housing of the casing is, basically, a fully-machined piece of aluminum billet, combining minimum weight and superior mechanical and thermal stability. Most of the other parts are bolted to the main housing to form a complete casing.
The gear set is enclosed in a housing made from an extruded aluminum profile, which is completely round on the inside. On the outside 12 flats have been milled out for weight reduction and torsional force absorption. The logical load-path for the bearings minimizes deflection and maximizes the load-carrying capacity.
Gearboxes for all types and layouts of cars
The RD series is used in rear-wheel drive and the SD series in front-wheel drive cars. Different versions of the RD gearbox fit very different cars, from MKII Escorts with as little as 220Nm to furious V8 engined cars with 660 Ft/Lbs(900Nm)of torque!
RD series gearboxes are now fitted to most front runners cars in the domestic series, winning events in the Swedish Championship. Most competitive FWD cars now rely on the superior reliability of the SD gearbox.

The RD906 features the following specifications:
Number of speeds:
6 forward, 1 reverse.
Housing design:
All parts designed to be thermally and structurally as rigid and stable as possible. A symmetric design ensures thermal stability and a uniform deflection of the housing during high loads. A natural and very favorable load path is designed into the whole layout.
All parts are machined from high tensile air craft quality aluminum. No cast parts are used.
Clutch shaft:
Normally the clutch shafts use a Ford 1”-23 spline. Any other type of spline can be made to order.
Clutch release mechanism:
Option: Ford OEM, AP or Tilton hydraulic release bearing fitted to the front plate of the RD90 gearbox.
Clutch rings (Dogrings):
Tractive standard with 90 mm O.D. with radiused corners for long life and good durability.
Selection mechanism:
Ratchet type sequential shift mechanism extensively developed by Tractive.
Gear positions:
R-0-1-0-2-3-4-5-6.
Cockpit Gear Lever:
Tractive sequential shift gear lever with return springs.
Linkage between gear lever and gearbox:
Direct acting from gear lever to gearbox lever, or through 8 mm stainless steel rods over a bell crank on the prop-shaft tunnel.
