Flavor Profile: Carignan is one of those funky grapes that you don’t hear much about. It is usually used as blending grape. In order for a wine from the Minervois region to put Minervois AOC on the label it must be no more than 40% Carignan. It is a medium bodied wine bursting with ripe berry fruit….including earthy blackberry, mulberry and black currant. It is well-balanced with bright acidity, medium tannins and lovely fruit flavors. It is not hugely complex but it is very enjoyable.
