“2008 presented cool and dry conditions during berry ripening which produced vibrant spicy and savoury aromatics and stone fruit flavours. Our 2008 Roussanne offers seductive perfume with layers of creamy French pears, fresh peaches and a refreshing acidity.” - PETER FRASER, Winemaker
Roussanne plantings are rare in South Australia. In 2003, we grafted Roussanne over Cabernet Sauvignon roots with vine cuttings from our McLaren Vale neighbor, D’Arenberg. Our Roussanne is planted on a ridge in the northeastern corner of our estate. The soils are weathered sands mixed with ironstone gravels and the climate is slightly cooler than the McLaren Vale basin thanks to breezes that waft daily off the bordering Mount Lofty Range. A single-wire VSP (vertical shoot positioned) system regulates the amount of sunlight reaching the leaves and grapes.
