One of three special bottlings we made in 2023. Not since our 2005 Camerata have we produced a 100% Petit Verdot (which, 21 years later, is still an amazing bottle.) Petit Verdot is so rarely bottled on its own that no archetype exists. We have used Petit Verdot since our first vintage in 1998 and seen multiple facets of the grape. We are thrilled that with a little age on the vines in Cara Mia Vineyard, our 2023 Petit Verdot eclipses the 2005. The 2023 is a study in contrasts, with the classic zing of acid and pepper and also astonishingly fruit driven. Dense but lightweight, muscular but lithe, this Petit Verdot exhibits a completeness in a grape that seldom expresses a balance and complexity this delicious. An archetype for Petit Verdot?
