Description
The Utah Cultural &Community Engagement Foundation is an official State of Utah fund established by Utah Code § 9-1-209 in part to support Utah communities as they respond and recover from emergencies or disasters. The fund is overseen through cooperation between the Utah Commission on Service and Volunteerism (UServeUtah), the Utah Division of Emergency Management, and the Utah Cultural & Community Engagement Foundation. The fund supports disaster response and recovery activities.
Tax deductible donations to the fund are made through the Utah Cultural and Community Engagement Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization (EIN# 85-3721660).
Donations received for a declared emergency will be distributed to address response and recovery needs, guided by a committee described in “Volunteer and Donations Coordination,” annex of the State of Utah Emergency Operations Plan. The objective is to ensure the maximum possible amount of donated funds are directly utilized for disaster response and recovery. Administrative costs will primarily be drawn from other available funds, including those from the state disaster fund. But if necessary, up to 5% of the donated funds may be used for operating and administrative costs directly related to the processing, management, or oversight of these donations.
At the conclusion of the disaster recovery process, any portion of the funds remaining in the account holding donations may be used by the Utah Division of Emergency Management and UServeUtah for emergency preparations, response, recovery, mitigation, training, or transferred to the “Disaster Response, Recovery, and Mitigation Restricted Account” established in Utah Code § 53-2a-1302.
