This listing is for a HIGH VOLUME Melling Select performance oil pump with anti-cavitation grooves for Chevrolet big block engines. P/N 10778C. The 10778C provides a 25% volume increase over stock pumps and features grooves machined in the housing and cover. These grooves reduce cavitation effects in high RPM applications. Use of this pump will reduce oil pressure at idle. Melling recommends a minimum oil pan depth of 9-5/8" and a maximum of 9-3/4".
The drive and idler shafts have been extended to allow for additional support in the cover. This additional support eliminates dynamic shaft deflection at increased RPM levels. The cover is doweled to the pump to assure alignment in the shaft boss, and the relief valve uses a screw-in plug instead of a pin.
The drive shaft is manufactured from chrome-moly steel, and the housing and cover are CNC machined and phosphate coated. A stock replacement spring is supplied which will reduce bypass pressure, if needed. An intermediate shaft with steel guide is included, and a 3/4" press-in screen is required.
