Matt Meyer grows intense fruit in a cool Anderson Valley vineyard. His wife Karen Meyer is their winemaker. Together they produce small exquisite and crisp wines. These can cellar for a number of years, and mature into more complex flavors.
This 2016 Syrah shows the classic elements of smokey, earthy nose in a cold-weather style, ala Hermitage. Unmistakably Syrah, intense, dry, not harsh.
Try pairing with Goat and Peppercorn goat cheese from Spring Hill in Petaluma. Works great with game meats such as lamb or duck. These fatty, earthy accompaniments are rich and smooth the wines intensity and slightly tight edges. Do decant and give some air to best enjoy.
