This Old Vine Zinfandel showcases the three-generation legacy of the Mounts Family in Dry Creek Valley. Rich Mounts planted these vines in 1967, providing premium fruit to wineries throughout the region for decades. Twenty years ago, son David and his wife Lana began crafting their own wines from select portions of the family vineyard. Today, their son Jacob has joined the vineyard team, making this a true family affair spanning three generations.
Their vineyard has rolling hills which provide subtle differences in sunlight and shade. The zinfandel is planted in 3 different areas, giving the harvest a wider range of ripeness, resulting in a more complex, more interesting wine. The Mounts family (and their vineyard crew) has dedicated countless hours of labor to tending the vineyard: pruning, thinning, managing the canopy, and finally carefully hand-harvesting each cluster at optimal ripeness. This consistent hands-on commitment across decades shows in every bottle.
David has worked for 20 years to perfect his winemaking, and produces the base wine. He then collaborates with Lana on the final blend to achieve perfect harmony. This Old Vine Zinfandel delivers classic brambly blackberry and black cherry flavors with hints of black pepper, baking spice, and a touch of vanilla from careful oak aging. The wine shows remarkable balance between rich fruit concentration and elegant structure - a quintessential example of what has made Dry Creek Valley famous for Old Vine Zinfandel.
