Wessex Hundred Traminette
Winemaker Notes:
The Wessex Hundred Traminette is making its return after several
years of absence. What makes this wine
so special is that it was harvested during the solar eclipse back in late
August, and it seems fitting to release it by the onset of summer. This wine shows aromas of orange zest, lemon,
lime, and apricot. In addition to the fresh
fruit is a floral bouquet of orange blossom, honeysuckle, and wildflowers. This wine has a very fruit-forward and juicy mouthfeel
reminiscent of the taste of the popular summer treat, the orange creamsicle. Following the creamy citrus is a finish of
dried apricot and pepper. This is a
luscious and fruity wine to enjoy all summer long, but please don’t stare into
the sun.
Vintage:
A mild winter and a warmer spring were the perfect
conditions for an early bud break. The summer
months were a bit warmer, approximately 5 degrees on average, and not as much
rain also helped to create a great vintage with an abundance of grapes. The humidity seemed to be a bit less as well
helping to create very good growing conditions.
In the autumn we did not see too much rain and the weather was very mild
to warm. Overall 2017 was the best
vintage I have experienced in Virginia
