2023 Talty Estate Zinfandel,
Dry Creek Valley 14.4%
The Estate Zinfandel comes from our own six acre, 62-year old, head-pruned and dry-farmed vineyard named after Michael's father in the heart of Dry Creek Valley. It produces a field blend of 7% Petite Sirah, 3% Carignane, and 90% Zinfandel.
The 2023 Estate Vineyard was picked on October 15th, much later than usual. It was fermented with the yeast that is native to that vineyard and spent about 14 months in 30% new American Oak barrels. Michael's peak drinking time: 2028-2031.
Tasting Notes:
Blackberry, black currant, and plum define both the nose and palate, layered with cedar and toasted oak. Accents of vanilla, red licorice, violet, raw hazelnut, toast and chocolate add depth and intrigue. Dark raspberry join on the palate, where the wine shows richness and complexity, carried by a long, lingering finish.
