Winemaking:

"The 2022 Red Blend is a composite of Merlot, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a multi-layered wine with intense, bright fruit, and subtle spice and floral character. Each vineyard adds character to the wine. The Merlot adds the backbone of structure, as well as berry fruit, notes of chocolate, as well as a smooth palate, and a velvety finish. The Syrah provides complexity, dark fruit, and spice, and the Cabernet Sauvignon subtle structure and intense berry fruit.” —Winemaker/Brewmaster, Elaine St. Clair

Roots:

The 2022 vintage is a blend of three different varieties from three different growing areas in the Napa Valley. The Merlot comes from the Andre Vineyard in the Oak Knoll District. The Andre Vineyard is located on the southern west side of the Napa Valley. Cool, foggy mornings and less extreme afternoon heat provide the grapes with a long, gentle ripening season. Moderate temperatures and alluvial loam soil provide the climate for the grapes to develop lush fruit flavor and spice with balanced tannins. Our Syrah comes from the Shearer Estate Vineyard owned by Elaine’s Father. This vineyard is in the Coombsville district; a cool area on the south end of the Napa Valley, where the summer heat is moderated by the morning fog and afternoon breezes from the San Pablo Bay. The climate and the distinct volcanic ash soil of Coombsville produce complex fruit and spice flavors and subtle tannins. The Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the Hendrickson Family Vineyard located in the Atlas Peak district. This vineyard sits on the top of Atlas Peak 2,000 feet above the valley floor. Growing above the fog on red volcanic soil, there is more sunlight which produces fruit with dark color and bold tannins.
